The Schulenburg Public Library had a terrific summer. This summer was made a great success by Librarian Cindy Lytle, Assistant Librarian Donna Holub, college student Tristian Schwenke, high school students Nicole Gabler, Julie Moellenberndt, and Shandrae Runnels.

The Schulenburg Public Library would like to thank the many volunteers who helped make story hours, the float, and every day operation possible. The following patrons volunteered: Darlene Nelson, Angela Sanders: Hill Country Zoo, Zana Cubit, Ashley Thomas, Taniyah Thomas, Taleah Thomas, Glenn and Gina Harden, Stacie Hopkins, Meagan Zak, Samantha Van Cleave, Natalie Gabler, Jonathan Sirilo, John Michael Stewart, Lloyd Schwenke, JoLane Schwenke, Grant Schwenke, Jaime Wetuski, Jaice Wetuski, Whitney Wetuski, David Langehennig, Ruby Rodriguez, Sandra Mendel, Mandy Simons, Bryan, Jon Beebe, and Gloria Clifford.

Donations included ice from Tiger Tote, use of Steve Wooster’s truck for the parade, the Pope Family, Olivia Sotello, J.W. Coddou Aldean Stoever, and Ms. Gouldsberry. Lorreta Pauler and Debbie Broun donated St. Mary’s Parish High Hill: 125TH Anniversary and Who’s Who and Where’s Where in the Bible in memory of Sister Sarah Kainer. A memorial was given in memory of Barnabas “Barney” Sommer from Mr. & Mrs. James Ross & Family. Scott Gresham donated Hunting Down Saddam by Robin Moore. The Single Shot Military Handbook was donated by the author, Croft Barker.

The awesome pirate riders included Kevin Velazquez, Shane Mendel, Drina Rodriguez, Lue Rodriguez, Angela Sanders, Darlene Nelson, Jon Beebe, Cindy Lytle – Librarian, Tristian Schwenke –College Student worker, Nicole Gabler –High School Student worker. Wayne Holub and Donna Holub – Assisstant Librarian pulled the float.

The Summer Reading Program Pool Party was made possible by donations from City of Schulenburg, Dairy Queen, Fayette Savings Bank, Fayetteville Bank, Harlan’s Food Market, McDonald’s, Sonic Drive-In, State Bank, Subway Sandwich, Wells Fargo Bank, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Schulenburg Literary Club, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Greeson, Ryan Holz – Lifeguard, Colby Bohac – Lifeguard, Wayne Holub, Brent Holub, Jonathan Gaspar, Carina Gaspar, Jo Lane Schwenke, Grant Schwenke, Samantha Gabler, Natalie Gabler, and Jon Beebe.

On July 8, 2006, the Schulenburg Public Library held their weekly story hour at the Regency Nursing home.  The children and residents listened to the Schulenburg Boy scouts: Troop 210 read stories, and then later enjoyed punch and cookies.  We would like to thank the regency nursing home for having us there to do the story hour, and the boy scouts who came to read.  The Schulenburg Public Library also holds a story hour on Monday and Wednesday mornings for the Boys and Girls Club of Champion Valley.  The 20 children come and hear delightful stories read by our part-time high school help.

The summer reading program has begun at the Schulenburg Public Library and is in full force, with great attendance for the Saturday Story Hours and the Summer Reading Program.  Starting, June 3, 2006, 20 children attended the first story hour.  The children listened to butterfly stories and later created their own beautiful butterfly.  The second story hour on June 10, 2006, 20 children listened to farm stories and later crafted their own duck hat.   They also enjoyed coloring their own farm booklet with color pages and farm songs.  24 children attended the nature story hour on June 17th.  They made a Turtle Father’s Day card, colored a Nature packet and Father’s Day color pages for their fathers.  The past story hour on June 24th, 24 children heard racecar stories and later made their own racecar out of snacks.  They also colored car packets and played with toy cars.  After all the excitement of each story hour, the children enjoy a snack of punch and cookies.

The Schulenburg Public Library also holds a story hour on Monday and Wednesday mornings for the Boys and Girls Club of Champion Valley.  The 20 children come and hear delightful stories read by our part-time high school help.
